Hedge funds breathed a sigh of relief in January when they recorded their best monthly gain in more than seven years. The uptick came as volatility had its biggest daily move on the 5th of this month in over a decade, a possible signal that global macro hedge funds and discretionary managers are coming back in vogue.  Hedge Fund Research reported that on an asset weighted basis, funds gained an average of 2.74% last month, which was their best performance since December 2010.
