Deutsche Asset Management Hires McDonald

Deutsche Asset Management today announced the appointment of Mark McDonald as Global Head of Private Equity Secondaries.

Based in London, McDonald is a seasoned expert in the private equity community, with a proven record in leading successful private equity business strategies from origination to execution and exit. McDonald’s experience includes a number of landmark transactions.

Most recently, McDonald was global head of secondary advisory at Credit Suisse and a senior member of the screening committee for the firm’s private fund group. He led the development and implementation of the group’s secondary strategy, which focused on more complex, bespoke solutions for General and Limited Partners.

McDonald has over 20 years of international experience and was previously a senior member of Keyhaven Capital Partners, where he focused on Europe and Asia and developed the firm’s secondaries strategy. Prior to this, he was a Principal at Pomona Capital, and directed the firm’s secondary, direct and primary investment strategy in EMEA.

McDonald’s focus is to grow the Deutsche Asset Management private equity business by identifying alpha-generating, bespoke solutions to complement client portfolios. Alongside the existing team, McDonald will look to capitalise on under-served and difficult to access secondary market opportunities as well as unique private market situations.

Pierre Cherki, Head of Alternatives and Co-Head, Investment Group at Deutsche Asset Management, said: “Mark is a widely-respected veteran of the private equity industry and his hire underscores our commitment to the private equity space within our Alternatives platform. As a member of the Alternatives Management Team, Mark will be a driving force in delivering innovation and value to our private equity clients”.

Mark McDonald, Global Head of Private Equity Secondaries at Deutsche Asset Management added: “I’m delighted to be joining Deutsche AM at such an exciting time and looking forward to aligning the private equity business to the next phase of growth and innovation in the private equity market - for the benefit of current and future clients”.

Deutsche Asset Management has EUR 77 billion in alternative investments (as of Sep 2017). Its private equity business offers secondary opportunities, direct equity co-investments and primary fund of funds to institutional and private clients globally.
