In 1994 Vik Mehrotra left UBS to launch his own firm and with it the first open ended Indian-dedicated hedge fund in the US. The long only fund was well supported, with early believers in India backing him, including the Lord Meghnad Desai (Chairman of Trustees Board for the LSE), John Gutfreund (of Solomon brothers) and various others.
