Canadian Alternative Mutual Funds Up In December 2020 To Deliver Second Consecutive Year Of Gains

The Scotiabank Alternative Mutual Fund Index, which tracks the performance of the Canadian Alternative Mutual Fund universe, finished December 2020 up +2.19% for full-year returns of +4.91%. Alternative equity-focused funds were up +2.61% whereas alternative credit-focused funds ended up +0.55%.

The 2020 data represents the second consecutive year of gains for the Scotiabank index. In 2019, the index ended up +5.33%.

Returns are calculated monthly on an equal-weighted basis; index constituents are limited to funds that are classified as
Alternative Mutual Funds, as defined in Canada's National Instrument 81-102. Scotiabank currently doesn't set a minimum requirement for AUM to be included in the index.
